ALBUM REVIEW: Lecrea's- "Church Clothes 2"

Whats good whats good?

It's the one and only DJ Kenny Ken-Neva Sin- But Still Sippin Holy Gin on the 1's and 2's!

Now a week or 2 ago I decided to do an album showcase for first time on Triple O's "Telescopes & White Roses". I received positive feedback from listeners being that fans rarely hear an artist's whole project. Most times we only hear the single and that's it. However most of the times, the songs on the album are way better than the single in my opinion. I have this belief because singles are so commercial driven, while the other songs have more creative room.

Anyway...I thought to myself...while we are doing album reviews, I mines well cover one of the most anticipated projects of the year. Drumroll: Lecrea's Church Clothes 2!

This 17 track mixtape has a cast full of majors in the game ranging from David Banner, B.o.B, Derek Minor, Andy Mineo and more! Alot of people wondered if CC2 would measure up to CC1, but I can tell you first hand it measures up and beyond!

I would personally give a breakdown of the whole album but unfortunately I feel unqualified because of a recent Sho Braraka quote. I don't remember it word for word, but he basically says, "Artists work months maybe years on a project, and critics listen to it one time and give their opinion." Some may disagree with that statement but as an artist I totally understand.

So on that note I checked a couple other couple of websites to see how they graded the mixtape. In my search I found that  HipHopDx.com reated CC2 with a 4.3 out of 5 saying, "Lecrae's "Church Clothes 2" may lack the inherent complexity and confrontation of its predecessor, but holds appeal for saints and sinners alike."

I also check BET's review on the album and they had nothing but praises for the cross over project saying, "Church Clothes 2 is a solid effort in when-keeping-it-real-goes-holy. Lecrae is lyrically dope and versatile with the tracks, and he can go toe-to-toe with any emcee, classified "Christian rap" or not."

Lastly I checked DJ Wade-O's comments on what he took away from CC2 by saying, "My take away from Church Clothes 2 was less about the record itself and more about what the record represented. This record proved to me the Lecrae is the perfect artist to carry the banner for CHH (whether he’s willing to claim it or not)".

In conclusion CC2 appears to be pretty dope. I've only heard it a couple times but so far my favorite is number 13 "Finer Things". This track really spoke to me personally because it's easy to get lost in chasing high paying jobs for the love of money. However I just want the finer things! Also I was excited to hear this track because I haven't heard from Tedashi in a while. So I knew he was going to spit some real knowledge on this song.

Other than that I have nothing left to say but stop wasting time and go download it for FREE now!  Hope it blesses you like it has plent others.

NEW PLAYLIST JAMZ!

Whats good whats good?

It's the one and only Dj Kenny Ken- Neva Sin- But Still Sippin Holy Gin on the 1's and 2's, and here are a couple singles to expect to hear on this week's playlist!

First up we have the single “Can't Take With You” ft DR by D. Pight from the “Something to Say” mixtape. This track has a up tempo sound like the Jay-Z “Tom Forbes” beat. However in this track, Pight explains that no matter how high on the Forbes list, you “can't take it with you” when we die. I haven't heard the whole project yet, but Jam The Hype rated it a 7.2, not bad for a mixtape, I expect to see more from D. Pight in the near future.
Up Next!!!...Is the new Unashamed 116 anthem, or should I say "Uno Uno Seis" by Andy Mineo ft Lecrea.
This single is from Andy's latest album "Heroes For Sale". It's a million reason why I'm bumping this song, but I'll just let you hear for yourself! #TURNUP!!
Another track you can definitely guarantee that I'll be playing is "Thirty:6" by Triple O of his new album "Telescopes & White Roses". Now if your unfamiliar to the blog, I recently did an album show case on the album. Some may say it's unfair to post tit as a top single again, but I can't help it! I've been playing the whole soundtrack ever since! This track's jazzy vibe is so unique and you will understand when you hear it. Plus the features from Earmark Collective & Stone put a cherry on the top!

TOP VIDEOS OF THE WEEK

Whats good whats good?

It's the one and only Dj Kenny Ken-Neva Sin-But Still Sippin Holy Gin.

Being that GoodNewsRadio is a radio show, we've never done a showcase on top videos. However...now that that blog is up and running...get ready for the Top Videos of Week!

First up is "Stay Clean"by Jordan Armstrong ft Franchise Tief. This video is super fresh and so clean! And being that it is a single from Jordan's "Jesus, Beats, and Fashion" mixtape it's the only way to be.
The 2nd video on the countdown is "Release Me From This Snare" by Beautiful Eulogy.Initially I was impressed by the creativity in this video. The scenery and sequence of events compliment the message of this song perfectly.I can tell the group put a lot of time and effort into this vision of this high quality video.
On a lighter note the # 3 video is "Killer Radio" by Sho Baraka. In this video, the poisonous messages of the mainstream are turning people into zombies! Sho and friends begin the video with a casual hang out night. However once the radio comes on they find themselves in a zombie infested house.
 ***WARNING***
This is rated R for Ratchet. It may contain ratchet behavior, bad rapping, and movements that may or may not resemble twerking.
The 4th video on the countdown is "Heard By The Herdsmen" by Evangel. This video is a typography video on the biblical story of the crazy demon possessed caveman in the book of Mark Chapter 5. Yes this actually happened in the bible. Read it yourselves when you get a chance. Anyway I liked this video because it not only is entertaining but it also uses a creative way to reflect actual scripture without being boring. Good job Evangel!
And last but not least the 5th video on this week's countdown is "Christian Hip-Hopper" by G.O.D. Sent ft Phanatik. This video actually convicted me personally as a emcee. The song talks about the origins of what a Christian rapper is and the video reflects it perfectly.  The main scene takes place in a picnics, with family, food, fun and games and that's it. No lights, cameras, or groupies! Just straight forward ministry and God's people.

Hope you enjoyed the countdown as much as I did!

HOLY HOUSTON? ...Hol' Up Mane.

Whats good whats good?
It's the one and only DJ Kenny Ken-Neva Sin- but Stiiiiilllll Sippin Holy Gin on the 1's and 2's!
This week as I was putting my playlist together I read Rapzilla's article on Von Won changing his name to Vaughaligan Walwyn. Inside the ariticle saw Whaulign's new single featuring the legendary Scarface straight out of H-town.  Bopping my head halfway through the song, I thought to myself, "Texas is getting pretty holy now a days..."
Now I'm no schoolar on CHH, but as far as I know, the Houston area has the highest turn over number of "secular" artist making music glorifying Christ. Briefly I'll present my case:Hol' up mane!
The primary piece of evidence come's from one CHH's best, and Houston's own: Lecrea. If you listen to Crea's music long enough it won't be long until you hear stories rooting back to his hometown. For example on his 1st Church Clothes mixtape he has a song called "Welome To H-Town" ft residents Tedashi & Dre Murray.
Bun B
Drawing from CC Vol. 1, my next evidence comes from Church Clothes 2. This album features Screwston heavy hitters: Bun B & Pall Wall. Pall Wall is featured on the track "Let It Whip". And the UGK Bun B speaks in a skit on the 12th track. Ohh yea and Paul Wall & Bun have both worked with Texas Christian Rapper Tre-9!

Paul Wall
Now if I need more...my last piece of evidence comes from the OG, Dj DMD. For those unfamiliar with his work he is responsible for the "25 Lighters" anthem of 98' Houston. No through the grace of God, he has now turned his life to Christ and dropped a "25 Bible" remix. DMD is a mogul in the game and last I heard he was starting his own label. This will surely pour more Texas flow into the Christian Hip Hop scene.
Ohh yea and before I rest my case MUST I remind you SCARFACE just drippin a lil holy juice on the game! And if Scarface is behind it TEXAS is behind it. So now if my playlists for the show are a lil chop & screwed.,you'll understand.

NEXT SHOW FEATURES: ALEX FAITH,JE'KOB, & B.I.C.

Whats good whats good ?

It's the one and only DJ Kenny Ken-Neva Sin-But Still Sippin Holy Gin on the 1's & 2's...and this week's show is gonna be fire!

Next Tuesday's done line up will feature Alex Faith, Jekob, & B.I.C. (Brothers In Christ) & many more.

One of my favorite tracks right now is that "Light Up" by Alex Faith ft Trip Lee. This is Alex's 2nd single from His latest album ATLast.  This track has a down south vibe complimented by Alex's dirty south flow. When I look at the album cover I can imagine bumpin this song in the old school whip! Ohh yea and did I mention Trip Lee's on the song also?

Another track I'll def be spinning is "The Edge of The World" by Je'kob ft Deraj. This is Jekob's leading track from "Pocketless Souls II". The anticipated project is set to drop on midnight New Years Day!

And last but not least, I'll be bumping West Palm Beach's very own B.I.C. "Brothers In Christ". Their mixtape "Until My Heart Stops" has been out for a while but its still going hard. I got it last semester here at FAU after a Social Club and I've been playing it since! My favorite track is the intro "Hope Boys". Listen to it, and you'll see why.

ALBUM SHOWCASE: TRIPLE-O "Telescopes & White Roses"

Whats good ?

Hope all is well fam, because I'm feeling great after hearing Triple-O's latest album "Telescopes & White Roses".  As matter of fact I'm feeling so good I decided to do an album showcase for the project for next week's show!

This will actually be a first live album stream for GoodNewsRadio. In the past I've done interviews with artist while playing their hottest singles, but never the whole album. No offense to our previous guests though. Lately I've just been growing more appreciation for other's works of art, being I'm currently working on my own. And trust me guys, this is no easy work!!! So as an artist, fan, and DJ I tip my hat to Triple-O.  TUNE IN EVERY TUE 2-4PM @ www.fauowlradio.com

Ohh yea..P.S. Until then you can still download the album for FREE NOW @ Rapzilla!

Spit Your Hottest 16 Contest: Recap

Once again Z180Radio held its annual SpitYourHottest16 contest for 2013. This year has brand new panel of judges, beats, and of course new prizes. I myself participated and hopefully I win.

Basically each MC has the opportunity to write their best 16 bars to each track for a chance to win. The judges pick the best verse for each song or whichever ones they prefer, and the winners are chosen. I submitted to all 3!

This year’s producers are Black Knight, Dee on The Track, and K-Drama.  The judges of the contest are Json, Lil Prophet, and R-Swift.

The prizes of the competition include, drumroll…a pair of Dr. Dre Beats headphones, exclusive beats from the producers, $300 worth of marketing, $200 of merchandize, and a $50 iTunes card!  So if that doesn’t motivate you…quit while your ahead.

The contest challenged my versatility and my lyrical content because I prefer a different style of music. However after this contest I made some hot songs, linked up with some good producers in my area, and had a lot of fun. If you want you can listen to the songs on my soundcloud profile.

Corny Christian Covers

Recently I had the pleasure of visiting Jam The Hype where I read an interesting article on the wackest creme del a creme genre of Hip Hop...the Infamous Christian Remix. Christian artist have and alwasy will cover "secular" beats. Some do a nice job, some...don't. However in this article Sketch The Journalist disects why Christian Covers are so BAD or GOOD.  Read the article for yourself and take notes...I know I did!

My Response To Dr. Piper

Whats good fam? A couple of days ago I posted the commentary of Dr. John Piper on the subject of Christian Rap Artist. I didn't post my opinion because I decerned that listening to his viewpoint first would be wise. After I listen...I've got something to say! ***DISCLAIMER*** This will not be a highly theological explanation so I'll keep this short and sweet. As a member of the Christian Hip Hop community I constantly struggle with either being a Christian making rap music or a rap artist making Christian music. However Piper's comments confirmed to me that THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE. I'm simply a Hip Hop junkie, who happens to be Christian. When I make music I rarely intend to preach the gospel. I just make whatever sounds good to me. However my christian convictions refrain me from just making any type of music/lyrics/ideas recklessly like many other artist do. In result I guess what you get is...Christian Hip Hop.

Christian Who Raps, Or Rapping Christian ?

Is there any difference between a "Christian" rapper and a rap artist who is Christian? This "overly debated question" has been a major point of discussion amongst the Christian Hip Hop community.

However the infamous Dr. John Piper has possibly found a way to make some sense of the mess. At the 2013 Legacy Conference he addressed the issue during a Q&A session.
